Music Industry Executive Lindsay Guion Provides an Overview of SXSW

You may have missed the 2019 SXSW conference and festivals that ran from March 9–17, 2019 but that doesn’t mean you can’t plan and gear up for making next year’s mind-blowing event. The 2020 SXSW will be held on March 13–22, 2020 in Austin, Texas and will once again feature one of the most diverse, collaborative, and inventive communities on the planet.

In case you’re new to SXSW, or you’ve heard about it for years but aren’t sure of what it is or why you should attend — then here is an essential overview courtesy of music industry executive Lindsay Guion, the Founder, CEO and Global Chairman of GUION PARTNERS, who joined other global influencers at the epic SXSW 2019 Block Party.

SXSW: The History

Founded in 1987, SXSW (South by Southwest) is a conference and festival that celebrates, champion and spotlight an eclectic and creative convergence of the music, film and interactive industries. Lindsay Guion depicts SXSW as a must-attend event for global influencers and offers exhibitions, screenings, showcases, sessions, and an array of networking opportunities.

SCSW: Access

There are four access levels for those who plan on attending SXSW: Platinum, Interactive, Film, and Music. A Platinum Badge will give you primary access to all events, including the full roster of tracks for interactive, music and film sessions, keynotes and workshops, along with the closing BBQ and softball tournament. The Interactive, Film and Music Badges will grant access to programs in each respective stream. A limited badge presale for 2020 SXSW is on now and ends March 31, 2019.

Platinum and Film Badge holders also get to enjoy a top-tier opening night film and closing night film. Lindsay Guion shared that at the 2019 SXSW the opener was Jordan Peele’s mind-blowing Us, and the closer was a remake of the classic thriller Pet Cemetery based on Steven King’s bestseller.

SXSW: Travel and Accommodations

Finding accommodations at SXSW isn’t a problem, and SXSW partner hotels include the Hampton Inn and Suites — Downtown; Holiday Inn Austin-Lake Town; Westin Austin — Downtown; The Driskill; The Intercontinental Stephen F Austin Hotel; Heywood Hotel, Austin; W Hotel, Austin; and several more.

Discounted pricing is available for attendees, including early bird rates. There are also hundreds of Airbnb options in and around the downtown Austin area that range from less than $50 a night to over $200.

Flying into Austin is easy and inexpensive from virtually anywhere in the country, and the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is only five miles from downtown. Heading back home is also simple, as there are more than 50 outbound direct flights to U.S. and international cities, including New York, Boston, Los Angeles, Washington D.C., Frankfurt, Cancun, London, and dozens more.

Lindsay Guion’s 2020 SXSW Advice: Plan Ahead

It’s a nice problem to have, but one of the challenges of attending SXSW is that there is so much to do, see and experience — and of course, people to meet and new relationships to spark — that folks new to the SXSW scene might get overwhelmed. The best way to avoid that is to plan ahead and stick to a schedule. Lindsay Guion states that there is nothing stopping you from planning now, don’t waste an opportunity to be exposed to some of the most creative individuals of the 21st century.

Lindsay Guion is a personal manager that works with Grammy award-winning artists, songwriters, and producers.
